How ScreenBeam Helped Hixson High School Create More Engaging Classrooms
Technology has become an essential part of the modern classroom, but it should support learning, not slow it down. For many schools, traditional wired presentation systems can limit teacher mobility, create unnecessary setup time and make collaboration more difficult than it needs to be.
That was the challenge facing Hixson High School in Tennessee. The school wanted a simple, reliable way for teachers and students to share content from their own devices while creating a more interactive learning environment. After trialling the ScreenBeam 1000EDU Gen2, the results spoke for themselves.
A Better Classroom Experience
During the proof of concept, teachers quickly noticed the benefits of wireless presentation. Instead of being tied to the front of the room by cables, they were able to move freely around the classroom while continuing to present lessons.
For teachers, this meant more opportunities to engage directly with students, answer questions and provide immediate feedback. Rather than focusing on the technology, they could focus on teaching.
Students also became more involved in lessons. Sharing work from personal devices became quick and straightforward, making classroom discussions and collaboration much more natural.
One of the biggest advantages was ease of use. ScreenBeam supports Miracast, AirPlay and Google Cast, allowing users to connect using the devices they already have. There are no proprietary applications to install and no dongles to manage, helping reduce support requests while creating a consistent experience across Windows, Apple and Chromebook devices.
More Than Wireless Display
While wireless screen sharing was the initial requirement, the school found additional value in ScreenBeam's built-in management and collaboration tools.
The solution includes Central Management System (CMS), enabling IT teams to remotely manage thousands of devices from a single platform. This simplifies software updates, monitoring and ongoing maintenance across multiple campuses.
Teachers also benefited from built-in applications such as Whiteboard, which enables collaborative lessons directly on compatible interactive displays without requiring a connected laptop. Classroom messaging allows school administrators to communicate directly with displays throughout the campus, while digital signage can be used to share announcements, calendars and school events when displays are not in use.
Another feature that stood out was Alert+, ScreenBeam's emergency notification platform. It enables schools to instantly broadcast important alerts such as lockdowns, evacuations or severe weather notifications to classroom displays, helping improve campus-wide communication during critical situations.
From Pilot to School-Wide Rollout
Following the successful trial, Hixson High School applied for funding through the Hamilton County School Resource Development Institute (SRDI). The team worked closely with teachers, IT staff and students to demonstrate how the technology would improve teaching and learning while supporting more active classroom participation.
Their proposal was successful, securing a $10,000 grant to begin the rollout. Additional support from community partners allowed the school to expand the project even further, with plans to install ScreenBeam technology in every classroom. The wider district has since identified ScreenBeam as a key part of its future classroom technology strategy.
