HP's Eco-Carton cartridge packaging improvement

Dear Partner,

Notification about changes to HP’s Large Format Eco-Carton cartridge packaging - April 2023.

Since 2020 HP has introduced the Eco-Carton cartridges, using sustainably sourced cardboard and avoiding plastic usage by, at least 70%1, and reducing the carbon footprint by, at least 45%2 compared to traditional plastic cartridges. Ink bag assembly can be returned using the HP Planet Partners3 program.

In our continuous engineering mindset for better products, as of today, HP is notifying our valuable partners and customers that recently HP begin changing the appearance of the HP Eco-Carton cartridges, removing product label and using recycled carton enclosure.

Cardboard box is made from 100% recycled material and plastic adhesive label is replaced by direct printing onto the product, using HP print technology on an HP manufactured product.

The aim of this change is to:

  • Improve the cardboard recyclability, removing the impurities due to plastic labels.
  • Increase the usage of recycled materials.

NOTES:

  • HP cardboard-based cartridges reduce the plastic by at least 70%, by total plastic weight, compared to plastic-based cartridges.
  • The carbon footprint calculation has considered an average of the carbon footprint reduction for different sizes of plastic-based cartridges compared to cardboard-based cartridges. All estimates of impact results are uncertain, resulting largely from data limitations and data quality. To mitigate this uncertainty, HP has developed HP-specific tools that use a combination of HP processes and product data, as well as high-quality lifecycle assessment data. HP strives to provide the most accurate environmental impact results, but uncertainty will never be completely minimized and results should be considered accordingly.
  • Inner materials including the ink bag are 55% recyclable and can be returned free of charge to the HP Planet Partners program for reprocessing of plastic parts. Zero landfill. Visit www.hp.com/recycle to see how to participate and for HP Planet Partners program availability; the program may not be available in your area. For countries where this program is not available, and for other consumables not included in the program, consult your local waste authorities on appropriate disposal.
